Estate cars are as synonymous with Volvo as burgers are with Burger King or coffee with Starbucks.

The V90 that you see here is the latest in a long line of Volvo station wagons, but it's unfortunately not destined for South African shores as our market shows virtually no interest in estate cars.

Going up against the estate versions of the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Mercedes E-Class, the V90 is basically a wagon version of the recently revealed S90 sedan, which is coming to South Africa.

This the new estate is the third Volvo to be based on Volvo's new modular 'Scalable Product Architecture' and as with its siblings, the range-topping T8 version gets a plug-in hybrid drivetrain with a system output of around 300kW and an electric-only range in the region of 50km.

Volvo hasn't mentioned the other engine options as yet, but the V90 is sure to get the same wide selection of 2-litre turbopetrol and turbopetrol engines as the S90 and XC90.

Likewise it'll also offer advanced semi-autonomous driving tech, complete with large animal detection and run-off road mitigation.
