Beijing, China - Chinese motor manufacturer Jiangling insists its Landwind SUV is safe even after getting abysmal results when tested in Germany.

Jiangling spokesman Xu Bingzhang said: "Landwind is secure. We've passed the national Chinese automobile test."

German automobile association ADAC said on its website that the Landwind, displayed at the Frankfurt auto show last week, failed miserably in crash tests conducted even at relatively low speeds.

When a frontal collision test at a speed of 65km/h was simulated, it said, the driver of the Landwind had "no chance of survival". When a vehicle was crashed into the side of the Landwind at 50km/h it said the driver would have survived but with serious head injuries.

Jiangling said in a response posted on its website that neither it nor its European dealer was invited for ADAC's test.

Xu said: "We haven't received any details on ADAC's test so we're not aware of the situation and we don't want to make any comment."

Dutch automobile association ANWB last week also reportedly issued a warning against the Chinese vehicle.
