Sochi, Russia - Red Bull is facing an engine crisis in 2016 having failed to come to a deal with Ferrari, a report said on Friday.

“At the minute it looks like we're not going to get any engine,” Red Bull boss Christian Horner told Auto, Motor und Sport magazine.

Ferrari is only willing to supply Red Bull with a 2015 engine next season, something the four-time world champion team owned by Dietrich Mateschitz refuse to accept.

Red Bull is currently supplied by Renault but the team is in the process of exiting a contract which was due to run to 2017. Mercedes has added Manor to Williams and Force India as customers and is also unavailable to Red Bull.

“We have discussed this topic over summer and waited on concrete feedback from Red Bull,” Mercedes motorsport chief Toto Wolff told dpa. “But that didn't come.”

Red Bull could attempt to salvage its relationship with Renault but that could be complicated by the French carmaker being in the process of taking over Lotus to form a works team.

If no supplier can be found, both Red Bull and its feeder team Toro Rosso could leave the sport before the 2016 season.
