London - Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone said Tuesday that he is not sure whether the head of the ruling body FIA, Jean Todt, is the right partner for planned F1 reform.

“He's been doing lots of other things, he is much more interested in road safety than Formula 1 or (the) sports side of things,” Ecclestone told Sky Sports News.

“So maybe he should step back a little bit from Formula 1 and let someone else take that part of the FIA's commitments over.”

Ecclestone and Todt were last week asked by the FIA World Motor Sport Council to come up with recommendations and decisions by late January over problems in the showcase sport. Issues range from governance to power units and cost reduction.

Ecclestone said that Todt may not be the right man to support him against various team interests, compared to his predecessor Max Mosley.

“The problem with Jean is that if there is a problem he likes to have things very democratic,” Ecclestone said.

“He wants everyone to be happy and everyone to agree, whereas when Max was in charge he hoped that he was leading the right decisions and hoped people agreed.”
