A 33-year-old man has been arrested for riding at a shocking 234km/h on the R21 near Nellmapuis on Sunday.

Spokeswoman for the traffic police, Busaphi Nxumalo, said the man was arrested just before 11am on the offramp outside Pretoria.

“He was travelling with his girlfriend on a blue Kawasaki ZX. He claimed that he was rushing to his mother in Pretoria who claimed she was having a panic attack,” said Nxumalo.

The man was charged with reckless and negligent driving with an alternative charge of exceeding the general speed limit of 120km/h, Nxumalo said.

He was released on R1000 bail and would appear in the Lyttleton Magistrate's Court soon. -Sapa
