Little surprise here.. the VW Polo Vivo topped the charts with 4047 sales.
The first month of 2013 saw no letting up in the upward sales spiral for new vehicles.
In fact, the industry recorded double-digit growth in January, posting a 14.1 percent increase over the same month last year, according to the latest figures released by Naamsa.
A total of 55 007 vehicles found homes in South Africa and while these figures are encouraging, Naamsa cautions that pre-emptive buying - ahead of expected price increases due to currency weakness - would have been a factor.
In the manufacturers' sales race, Volkswagen narrowly beat Toyota with a total tally of 10 511 against 10 219. GMSA (5585), Nissan (4645) and Ford (3969) made up the top five.
The individual sales figures still exclude non-reporters like Hyundai, Kia and Mercedes-Benz, although it's likely that the latter will be reporting in the near future.
