What do George Clooney, will.i.am and Jay Leno all have in common, other than fame and success? The irresistible swag of a first generation Chevrolet Corvette. And you can have it too, when Stephan Welz & Co puts one under the hammer in Cape Town on October 1.
This 1959 model, in white, is valued between R900 000 and R1-million, according to auction director Anton Welz.
The Corvette was first developed as a display car for the New York Auto Show in 1953, but an overwhelming amount of public interest prompted General Motors to put it into production.
The first generation was built until 1962, and this late-model ‘59 benefitted from a stronger engine to earlier versions.
Also on auction will be a 1965 MGB convertible, estimated to go for between R100 000 and R120 000. The entire auction catalogue can be viewed at www.stephanwelzandco.co.za. For more information contact 021-794-6461 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Pre-auction viewing is open to the public at no charge, daily from next Wednesday to Sunday the 29th. Online bidding is also possible nationwide via www.the-saleroom.com website. -Star Motoring
