Lamborghini has just delivered its 1000th Aventador LP700-4, only 15 months after the car went into production in April 2011.

The 1000th example of Lamborghini's 6.5-liter V12 flagship, rated at 515kw and 690Nm, was personally handed over on Thursday to German architect Hans Scheidecker by Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann.

That's a record for a V12-engined Lamborghini; it took the Sant' Agata works 29 months to hit the same mark after the Aventador's predecessor, the Murciélago, was launched at the 2001 Frankfurt auto show, and previous models took even longer.

The factory has ramped up production on the LP700-4 assembly line from three cars a day to nine cars every two days, to try to meet the demand for the Aventador, but still says every car for the next 18 months has somebody's name on it.
