BMW was the first carmaker to offer full-time internet connectivity in its cars, with an added range of motoring-specific subscription services and features to keep you turned on, tuned in and unlost from A to B, establishing what it rather grandly calls " intelligent networks between the driver, the vehicle and the world at large".

Now BMW owners can use all those features without having to go and sit in their car, planning travel routes and checking traffic conditions in real time - in advance.

Subscribers to the BMW Assist and Online features on ConnectedDrive now have access to the latest traffic reports via Real-Time Traffic Information (previously available only while in the car) from the BMW Routes web portal, using any internet-enabled gadget - from a smartphone or tablet to the desktop PC in their office.

Which means that when they do get into their car, they can concentrate on driving - we hope.
