IOL mot pic jun28 Next Veyron 1 . The next Veyron is likely to be even more radical than this carbon fibre-bodied concept.

While the Veyron as we know it is, to be blunt, a dinosaur, the concept of a 900kW street-legal capable of more than 440km/h is alive and kicking at Bugatti - only now they're boxing clever, using technology rather than blunt force to create the successor to the world's fastest production car.

To start with, it will be significantly lighter than the two tonnes of the current Veyron, using the latest materials and technologies.

Bugatti chief vehicle engineer Jens Schulenburg told Auto Express it could even be a hybrid, but that the central focus of development (yes, they are already busy on the next Veyron) was on weight reduction, including the possible use of carbon-fibre rims, a technology originally developed in South Africa for Grand Prix motorcycles.

“We are working on the next super-sports car,” he was quoted as saying. “The big challenge on the next car will be reducing weight; we are looking at some incredible technologies, but hybrids are definitely something we're looking at too.”
