Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said the bus and the taxi collided at the corner of Stellenbosch Arterial and Nooiensfontein roads.

“The driver of the taxi died on impact,” said Van Wyk. “A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.”

Dammert said another light motor vehicle was also involved in the accident. He added that of the 50 passengers who were on the bus, 10 were slightly injured. It was not clear how many people were in the taxi.

He said initial reports suggested that the bus was travelling from Stellenbosch and as it was turning left on Nooiensfontein Road the taxi tried to drive through a red traffic light, causing |the accident.

“It is very unfortunate that something like this has happened, said Dammer, “and we apologise to |the family of the taxi driver for what happened.”
