Chesapeake, USA - Danny Sawyer recently took delivery of a brand new Chevrolet Traverse from Priority Chevrolet, but he clearly didn't like the colour (black) so promptly returned to the dealer the following day to see if he could exchange it.

The dealership's sales manager happily obliged and promptly swopped it for a blue one, while the new paperwork reflected the same price that he'd paid for the black one - $33 957.55 (R297 500).

All was good, until a week later Mr Sawyer returned from a holiday to find a glut of phone messages from the dealer. When he got back to them they informed him that they'd made a mistake with the price and that the blue car they'd given him actually had a higher value of $39 000 (R342 000).

They basically told him to pay up; he refused and then they got him arrested for theft.

He was arrested after weeks of been pursued by the dealership for the money and the police held him for four hours and then released him on bond.

The dealership eventually dropped the charges but, with this being America, there is obviously gonna be a final twist to the story.

Mr Sawyer is now suing the dealership because due to this whole ordeal he has suffered “nightmares, fear of arrest, emotional distress, shame, loss of reputation and sleeplessness.”

All of this apparently entitling him to a princely sum of $2.2-million, according to the suit that he's filed.

The dealership's president, Denis Ellmer, has since given Mr Sawyer a huge apology, but that's clearly not going to make this all go away.
