Cops cars double as delivery vehicles

An investigation is underway into reports that some police vehicles were being used as delivery vans in Daveyton and Ekurhuleni, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

“We are looking into the matter; we don't have the facts yet, except for those published in the Daily Sun,” said Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini.

The newspaper printed a reader-supplied photograph of goods being unloaded from a police car.

Residents claim it is common for businesses, particularly foreign businesses, to hire police cars for their deliveries.

One said: “The cops make extra money using police vehicles as delivery trucks, while the people have to pay for the vans and the cops' salaries”. -Sapa
