A Fordsburg man was shot by metro police in an apparent road rage incident, Johannesburg metro police said on Saturday.

Spokesman Wayne Minnaar said the man, who was driving a white Golf had followed a red Golf that cut him off in peak hour traffic on Friday on Barry Hertzog Avenue.

He followed the vehicle and when he caught up to it, drew his gun and smashed the car windows.

The man, 29, then pointed the gun at the two occupants of the other Golf who turned out to be metro policemen in plain clothes, driving an unmarked car.

“After he broke the window with his firearm and then pointed the firearm at the officers, the suspect was shot on his right leg,” Minnaar said.

He said the man would been charged with attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

“We will also conduct a criminal investigation as well as a departmental investigation,” said Minnaar. -Sapa
