Tamara Ecclestone’s £300 000 (R4.2 million) Lamborghini has been dramatically seized from a mechanic’s workshop as part of an on-going ‘custody’ battle with her ex-boyfriend. The daughter of Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone bought the luxury Lamborghini Aventador in 2011 from car dealer Ziad Shawadi while she was dating businessman Omar Khyami.

The car was put in her boyfriend’s name to secure a resident’s parking permit, but registered to Ecclestone’s address in Chelsea. After the couple split last June, Ecclestone tried to sell the car but was told that unbeknown to her, there was an outstanding debt taken out against the vehicle which had to be paid off before it could be sold.

TAKEN HOSTAGE

The car then became the subject of a legal battle between the couple, due to be heard in the High Court this year, after Khyami claimed ownership.

In a new twist, the car has now disappeared from the HR Owen garage in Acton, West London, where Ecclestone had booked it in for a service. It is alleged that Shawadi and two men told staff they were taking the car in relation to an outstanding debt.

Ecclestone, 28, said: “I made a formal complaint at Notting Hill Gate police station. My father has had calls from Ziad Shawadi who says he has the car and intends to sell it.”

A Scotland Yard spokesman confirmed a complaint had been received but said they would not be taking the matter further. - Mail on Sunday
