Drunk driving is wrong. We all know that. It's something that any responsible person avoids.

Yet getting your young child to drive you home when you're sloshed at 3am in the morning doesn't exactly make you a hero either.

Police on Australia's Gold Coast got an unpleasant surprise in the early hours of Friday morning when they pulled over a car that didn't have its headlights on.

They were shocked to find that the car was being driven by a seven-year-old boy, with his father drunk and sitting in the passenger seat.

"A man has been charged with serious traffic offences after police intercepted a car allegedly being driven by a seven-year-old boy at Surfers Paradise in the early hours of this morning," police said.

According to AFP, the 41-year-old was charged with “dangerous operation of a motor vehicle” and “being an adult in charge under the influence of alcohol.”

As for the boy, he’s now been put into the care of relatives who hopefully have more sober habits.
