Cape Town - A 23-year-old drunk driver bit the hand of one of the traffic officers who pulled him over in Westlake for jumping a red traffic light.

Mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith said: “He initially obeyed the instruction to pull over, but then sped off again with officers in hot pursuit.

They eventually managed to force him to a stop, but then he tried to evade arrest again by biting the hand of one of the officers.”

The incident happened on Saturday night. Smith said from Friday until Sunday local traffic police arrested 112 people for drunk driving - but only one tried to bite his way out of trouble.
