Beijing Motor Show - It's not only the world brands that have brought dramatic concepts and slinky show cars to Auto China 2014. This is the Haval Coupé SUV concept from Great Wall Motors, “a concept-to-be model” that previews GWM's intentions for the future of its premium brand.

But the big surprise is under the bonnet - it's a plug-in hybrid, with full-time 'intelligent' all-wheel drive. GWM hasn't released any technical details, but claims fuel consumption (in on-road FWD mode, one assumes) of 2.2 litres per 100km.

Intended to blend sports-car performance, off-road ability and luxury trim in a Euro-styled package, the Coupé shows that at least one Chinese brand is serious about raising its game. Remember what we used to say about Korean brands?
