A 28-year-old man escaped unharmed after his car was shot at nine times during an attempted hijacking in Glenvista on Tuesday morning.

Gauteng police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele said: “When he tried to get out of his yard in his car, four men pointed guns at him.”

A shoot out ensued between the hijackers and victim before the gunmen sped off in another vehicle.

Patrolling police later found a silver-grey BMW abandoned in an open space in Snake Park in which they found a body of a man with a bullet wound in his chest.

Makhubele said the vehicle was used as the getaway car in the attempted hijacking. Investigations revealed that it had been reported stolen in Lenasia.
