We're really tired of hearing about how often traffic police accept bribes from motorists so regularly. It's something that really defeats the object of having the laws that aim to keep us all safe on our treacherous roads.

Which is why it's refreshing to hear of incidents where cops actually get arrested and punished for putting personal gain above their jobs.

Well, today a Free State officer was sentenced to three years in prison because he asked for a bribe of cash and food from a truck driver. The incident took place in March, near Glen - which is north of Bloemfontein.

The Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court found 41-year-old Macdough Mochoari guilty of corruption. In addition to the jail term, the officer was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The police have urged motorists to report corruption. And you should!
