South Africa’s first motoring-only TV channel, Ignition, will kick it up a gear next month when it launches a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week offering.

Originally launched in 2008 as a weekend-only broadcast on DStv channel 189, Ignition will expand with 20 news hours of transmission every week starting on Saturday, July 5. Existing shows such as Ignition GT with Gugu Zulu, Buyer’s Guide with Adam Ford and Sagie Moodley, and Petrolheads with Sbu Skosana will continue to be supplemented by SA’s best televised racing formulas and numerous other petrol-fuelled programmes.

New international shows will include Supercars, a German-made series about the world’s fastest and most expensive cars; while I Want That Car takes British vehicle buyers to famous UK racetracks to size up three different options in the used-car market. American hip-hop artist Funkmaster Flex will also host a new series focussing on the customisation of celebrity cars in Fast Machines with Funkmaster Flex.

Programmes missed over weekend schedules can be viewed as repeats during the week, with Monday to Friday primetime airing between 7pm and 11pm. Ignition is available to DStv Premium, Extra, Compact and Family customers.
