Toyota South Africa has clearly got something rather enticing planned for the Johannesburg International Motor Show, which opens to the public on 18 October.

Marketing GM Kerry Roodt explained that “A few cars we'll still keep under wraps until show time but we can divulge that the FT-86 Open Concept, which premiered at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, will be seen officially for the first time on African soil.”

The concept previews an upcoming convertible version of the 86 and it features an electrically operated fabric roof and (an excuse for) rear seats.

Its cabin was styled by a Milan-based designer and features a high-contrast white and navy blue colour scheme that Toyota says emphasises the car's proportions.

As for the ‘surprise’ unveilings, one of these is sure to be the new Corolla , which Toyota previously told us is set to be unveiled at the Joburg show.

In addition to Toyota's full line-up of existing products, and an as-yet-unnamed surprise from Lexus, the company will also be showing off its latest Dakar racing Hilux as well as the TS030 race car that came second in this year's 24-hour Le Mans race.

Furthermore, off-road junkies will have the opportunity to put certain 4x4 models thorough their paces on Toyota's outdoor 4x4 track and also catch a glimpse of Toyota's new Prado .
