Johannesburg - Motorists travelling along the N12 in the Lenasia/Eldorado Park areas can expect temporary delays for the following two weekends because of road works.

Gauteng MEC for roads and transport, Ismail Vadi has issued a traffic advisory notifying all motorists that the N12 freeway at the Kliptown/Samfur bridge near Lenasia/Eldorado Park will be temporarily closed between 6am and 2pm on Saturday, February 11.

Work on that section of the freeway was expected to continue the following day on Sunday, February 12 .

The delays were due to major construction happening on the bridgehead on East Road, including the removal of the bridge’s beams.

“Motorists using the N12 are advised to take an alternative route over the coming weekend as major construction will be undertaken on East Road, which runs over the N12,” said Vadi.

The 60-year-old bridge was structurally damaged a year ago when an overloaded truck hit its beams and motorists are advised to make use of the Golden Highway, which runs parallel to the N12, as an alternative route.

Vadi also said the N12 will be temporarily closed on the following Saturday, February 18 from 6am to 2pm, for the installation of replacement beams on the bridge.

Vadi apologised for the inconvenience to motorists saying that this was in the interest of road safety and maintaining a good road network in the province.
