The Toyota Hilux kicked the dust on its rivals in December, with sales of 3929 units.
Despite the economic uncertainly that plagued most of the year, 2011 was a good year for vehicle sales.
Bearing in mind that Mercedes-Benz did not release its December 2011 figures, a total of 570 012 vehicles were sold in South Africa last year, according to NAAMSA, representing an estimated 15.9 percent increase over 2010 once a set of conservatively estimated MB figures for December were factored in.
Last year's figures, however, are still rather far off South Africa's record of 714 315 vehicles that were sold in 2006.
On the assumption that the South African economy will grow, in real terms, by between 3% and 3.5% in 2012, NAAMSA is estimating total vehicle sales of 611 500 this year, an improvement of around seven percent.
DECEMBER 2011 SALES:
New vehicle sales ended the year on a rather high note with overall new vehicle sales for December amounting to 43 790 units, representing a gain of 11% over 2010.
Export figures, however, remained under pressure, with the month's export sales (excl. MB) reflecting a 38.3 percent decline over the same month last year.

These figures mean nothing, i think Hyundai and Kia are selling a lot vehicles. so this is not really a true reflection of new vehicles sold. Now we have Mercedes not reporting.
