The woman caught allegedly travelling at 207km/h on the R21 with her child in the car is expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court this week and she faces the possibility of her licence being suspended.

The 22-year-old hairdresser is not alone in this predicament.

Over the weekend, a person was arrested in the Free State after being caught driving at 247km/h, while another was clocked travelling at 251km/h in the Western Cape.

Gauteng traffic police spokeswoman Busaphi Nxumalo said the hairdresser, who had been driving a BMW 330d, is out on bail of R1000.

According to Nxumalo, the woman said she was going fast because her child was sick.

However, the officer said the baby appeared to be fine and had started crying only when she removed the dummy.

“We are not doctors, so we could not determine if the child was indeed sick,” said Nxumalo.

“The court will determine the type of fine she gets.”

The woman was arrested near the Olifantsfontein off-ramp. She is expected to appear in the Tembisa court today or tomorrow. -Pretoria News
