Hutton, England - A driver smashed a £200 000 (R4.3m) supercar - just ten minutes after taking delivery of it.

Neighbours said he celebrated with champagne after the McLaren 650S Spider was unloaded at his home.

Minutes later the powerful car, which can go from 0-100km/h in three seconds, was a crumpled mess after it ploughed into a tree and a signpost.

Residents in Hutton, Essex, said they heard a “screech and a crash” as the two-door coupe left the road - which has a 32km/h limit - last Wednesday.

Diane Evans, 39, said the driver, who looked under 20, and an older male passenger then got out and walked away “as if nothing had happened”.

The full-time mum, who said the road was wet at the time, added: “They must have been gutted after spending that much money.”

Another local, Sarah Jane Woodley, wrote on Facebook: “Expensive 10 mins!”

Essex Police said a man will receive a summons to appear in court for careless driving.
