Want that sportscar looking better than new? How about a 50-grand Posh Wash?

High-end Durbanville-based auto detailer Classic Detail is now offering South Africa’s most expensive carwash. It costs R50 000 – yes, you read it right, but it’s claimed to restore a car’s finish to better than showroom condition.

Master detailer Neddy Quilindo, who was trained by experts in Zurich, Switzerland, explained: “Its a myth that a brand-new vehicle is delivered in a perfect condition.

“Once the car is washed at the dealer prior to delivery, swirl marks and holograms start showing up.”

The complete makeover involves a Posh Wash done entirely by hand, followed by a paint thickness reading and as many as five stages of polishing, depending on the car’s condition. This can take up to 100 hours. Finally the paintwork is treated with a polish thart contains 76 percent pure carnauba wax, to protect the paint and give it that special, deep shine.

Once the detailing services are completed Classic Detail’s team coaches its clients or their staff on how to wash and care for their vehicles, to maintain its pristine condition.

A basic polish at Classic Detail starts at about R3500, depending on the vehicle, and further treatments including services from the Leather Worx division which repairs interior scratches, small tears, cuts and discolouration; and the ClassicVault department where owners can store, drop-off or collect their vehicles at any time of day, can cost up to R50 000.

The service is targeted at motorists wealthy enough to afford such an expensive carwash and Classic Detail says its clientele includes car collectors, as well as local and international celebrities. Some second-hand dealerships are also having vehicles detailed to increase the perceived value of used luxury cars. - Drive Times
