Our sister publication, The Star, is celebrating its 125th birthday this year and to mark the occasion, the Star Motoring supplement is giving its readers the unique opportunity to win a cool set of wheels: a Kia Picanto priced at R125 000.

All you need to do is buy a copy of The Star on Thursday 14 June and find the entry details on page 2 of the motoring supplement.

Kia’s funky little hatch was launched in South Africa last year and has stirred up the budget category with its sassy styling, fuel economy, impressive build quality, and value for money – attributes which saw it scoop the overall runner-up prize in the 2011 South African Car of the Year competition.

We’re most impressed with the quality levels Kia’s built into its smallest car, and our testers have found its cabin to be among the best in class. We also like the brave styling which sets this car apart from the rest of the entry-level pack.

The Picanto EX is powered by an eager yet economical 1.2-litre engine offering 65kW and 120Nm, with a 5-speed manual transmission.

In standard trim the Picanto’s well stocked with comfort and convenience features, with a trip computer, a sound system with MP3 and (USB port and aux in) iPod compatibility, keyless entry, remote central locking and one driver airbag all included as standard equipment. The top EX model, which we’ll be giving away in our competition, comes with additional features such as 15” alloys, Bluetooth connectivity, ABS brakes, an extra airbag, chrome door handles, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, and electric mirrors.
