There is a seemingly never-ending list of stupid and far-fetched excuses that motorists have used when caught speeding or after having caused an accident.

However this one comes close to taking the cake. A 19-year-old man, in Temecula in the US, said that he was attempting to flee from zombies when he caused a big pile-up on a highway.

The man was driving a stolen truck, a situation for which he also blamed his zombie friends.

You see, the man had hitched a ride with a truck driver and during a stop near Temecula, and while the driver was making adjustments to the trailer, the accused began to have visions of zombies coming after him.

“I HAD TO SWERVE”

He then took off in the truck, entered the highway and started swerving from side to side because he though there were zombies clinging to the side of the truck.

His wild 'heroism' resulted in an accident in which two people were seriously injured and in which plenty of metal was mangled.

Obviously, it didn't take police long to suspect that the man had taken some form of mind-altering substance, although that is still pending the outcome of an investigation.

During his first court appearance, the man pleaded not guilty to charges of assault with a deadly weapon, attempted auto theft, reckless driving and numerous other offences. No zombies have been arrested as yet and the deluded man is due back in court on 17 April.
