Renowned German tuning company Brabus has just transformed the latest Mercedes-Benz CLS into the quickest street-legal sedan on earth.

The Brabus Rocket 800, revealed at the Frankfurt show this week, continues a long tradition of insanely fast sedans by Brabus.

In this latest job, Brabus shoved a modified version of Merc's biturbo V12 into the engine bay and while the standard engine is 'only' good for 450kW, the Brabus version thumps out 588kW at 5500rpm, with maximum torque rising to 1420Nm at 2100rpm - although Brabus felt the need to restrict it to 1100Nm.

This, according to claims, will see it screech from 0-100km/h in just 3.7 seconds, from 0-200 in a shade under ten seconds and on to a top speed of 370km/h. Yes, even a Bugatti Veyron driver will not shake you far off the tail.

Clearly Brabus engineers got rather busy beneath the bonnet and they started by increasing the cubic capacity from 5.5- to 6.3-litres, via a new crankshaft with a longer stroke as well as larger, forged pistons and an increased cylinder bore.

Another custom development is the reworked twin-turbocharging system. It comprises two special exhaust manifolds with integrated high-performance turbochargers, and four water-to-air intercoolers. The stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts and butterfly valve was also specially created for this CLS. Finally, Brabus also reconfigured the on-board electronics system.

The monstrous urge that results is channelled through a seven-speed automatic gearbox and to keep it all in check, Brabus also extensively modified the suspension, brakes and aerodynamics.
