Johannesburg - As hard as it seems to believe right now, summer is actually on its way and if you're planning to celebrate with the top down, a new option from Germany will be in local showrooms by mid-Spring.

Mercedes-Benz SA has just opened the order book and released local pricing, ahead of its launch in October, and local buyers will have a choice of five derivatives.

C-Class Cabriolet prices:

C200 - 135kW/300 - R699 900

C220 d - 125kW/400Nm - R774 900

C300 - 180kW/370Nm - R805 900

C 43 4Matic - 270kW/520Nm - R1 039 900

C 63 - 350kW/650Nm - R1 439 900

C 63 S - 375kW/700Nm - R1 559 900

Worth the premium?

This Cabriolet is a rather expensive way to rearrange your hair, however, with the new open-top models commanding a premium of around R150 000 over their equivalent C-Class Coupé counterparts, which cost between R552 924 and R1 392 146.

However, that is a price that many will pay for the joys of open-top motoring, and the C-Class certainly does it in style, while also offering the latest technologies and gadgets. There are some extras you might want to consider, such as the Comfort Package (with Aircap and Airscarf) for next winter, which will set you back R9500.

So what's it like?

Denis Droppa tried the new C-Class Cabriolet out for size in Italy last month and believes it's going to be a hit in certain parts of South Africa: CLICK HERE for the full report.
