Kuga is a family wagon than can rough it if necessary.
Say what you like about it being a run-out model (the next generation Kuga has already been announced overseas) the Ford Kuga, released in South Africa this week, adds to the Ford range something it hasn't had in the past - a stylish, all-wheel drive crossover with a bit of flair and a lot of attitude.
Standard on all Kugas is an intelligent 'on demand' all-wheel drive system that feeds all the power to the front wheels under normal circumstances so that, on tar, it drives just like a 'normal' family car.
But, if the front wheels begin to lose traction, it will automatically transfer as much torque to the rear wheels as necessary to ensure the best drive under all cornering and accelerating conditions.
The Kuga is available in South with only one engine option - a 2.5-litre turbopetrol mated to a five-speed auto transmission. Quoted output is 147kW at 6000rpm and 320Nm from 1600-4000rpm good enough for a top speed of 202km/h.
Claimed fuel consumption is 10.3 litres per 100km and average CO2 output is 244g/km.
The styling is typical SUV-wannabee, with strong wheel arches, chunky detailing (especially around the grille/headlight/bonnet area) and a high waistline with a relatively small glassed area.

.
A split tailgate offers separate access to either the parcel shelf or both storage areas simultaneously, while four D-ring tie-down points enable heavy items to be safely tethered - and there's more storage under the second row of seats.
But the Kuga is also more than a family workhorse; luxury features include push-button starting, cruise control, Bluetooth with voice control functionality, full leather trim with six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, heatable front seats, power windows and heated, powered door mirrors.
Safety is entrusted to disc brakes all round with antilock braking, electronic brakeforce distribution and brake assist, linked to an electronic stability programme with anti-rollover mitigation.
The higher-spec Titanium variant adds rain-sensitive wipers, auto dimming rear-view mirror, dual-zone auto aircon, green-tinted privacy glass, 17” alloy rims and a panoramic glass roof.

Now is the time for the SA motorists to demostrate against these prices! Its a pit that Malema is now out, we ONLY need him for problems like this.

Not only Ford but ALL the "popular" brands are being priced to rip off South Africans who continue supporting them. Come on China, get your quality and prices right and I will support you! Remember they called Japese cars and bikes "Jap Scrap" a few years ago!

mmm....wonder which fools will be stupid enough to buy these...and there will be. Nothing "new" about the looks and thirsty diesel engine.I'd rather stick with the Koreans or even the ASX os Subura Xover..All at under R300K..is this all the left over stock they couldnt sell overseas?

Shite, i 've been waiting for this car, and now the price! This car is the same size as the Tiguan, which makes it smaller than some of the Korean competitors. Yes, the power and torgue is much higher, but it is damn old. Thank God we have so many choices in this segment. This one will have to spend more time on the showroom floors until Ford comes to their senses...of course i would not bet on them doing that.

This 2011 - will the Ford marketing people never catch up to the rest of the manufacturers ? Imagine trying to dump an obsolete model on the SA market and then still being prepared to rip us SA motorist off. Catch awake up you idiots.

The price of this vehicle will be its downfall. Ford SA's Marketing Department leaves a lot to be desired. The claimed fuel consumption of 10.3lt per 100kms, will most likely be close to 13lts in reality. Sorry Ford but you have cocked up yet once again. Remember this is SA where Ford does not have the reputation that it enjoys in other countries, such as Australia or the UK for example.

Ford is clearly underestimating their target market. Ford, you used SA as dumping ground for your previous Ka and now you are doing the same with the Kuga: DUMPING! At ludicrous prices. You also overpriced your new Ranger range. Please come down to earth.

You can get the same vehicle from Mitsubishi, the ASX @ R279 000 with a much more appropriate 2litre petrol engine; I dislike turbo's - no turbo will be allowed on my property

Nice looking car, but the price??? Eish, Ford trying to rip off SA public. The engine they're offering is a guzzler, not to mention the high CO2 emmissions. Where is the diesel as is in European models. SA is again dumping ground for leftovers (remember Ford Territory)! No wonder the Koreans are taking over!!

Either Kia copied them, or Ford copied Kia. I almost thought this was a Kia from the front
