Autenzell, Bavaria - With a history of extracting impressive extra power from already potent AMG and BMW M cars that goes back to 1983, Jochen Grommisch's G-Power skunk works has a reputation to uphold.

And we reckon their latest sledgehammer conversion does just that; not that he uses a uses a sledge on the car - he turns BMW's X6M into one!

G-Power offers three stages of extra clout, starting with a basic software re-map that boosts the X6M's 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 from 423kW and 750Nm to 478kW and 850Nm, either by fitting a plug-and-play Bi-Tronik 5 V1 power module - which is available as a kit for customers around the world at €4165 (R67 450) - or the programmable BiTronik 2 V1 unit, which enables G-Power in Autenzell to optimise its parameters individually, in-house, for a specific car and its owner's preferences - at a cost of €3916.39 (R63 400) including installation.

Stage 2 is calibrated around a set of smooth-flowing stainless-steel downpipes, which will set you back €3391.50 (R54 950) - plus €493.85 (R7998) for installation unless you do it yourself.

Then you add either a Bi-Tronik 5 V2 plug-and-play power module at €4700.50 (R76 180) or a Bi-Tronik 2 V2 in-house software re-map at €4392.39 (R71 175) installed, to give you 525kW and 905Nm.

Expensive hardware

Stage 3 is good for a claimed 552kW and 980Nm, but it takes a lot more hardware to do it. You'll need modified turbos, which are machined at Autenzell to take larger-diameter turbine and compressor wheels, and their housings gas-flowed. These cost €4581.50 (R74 232) each - and you have to supply the turbos!

Then, to the stainless-steel headers you add a specially-designed titanium exhaust system with two rear silencers and four 100mm tailpipes, giving your X6 a much more authoritative voice and saving 23kg in weight, at a cost of €6616.40 (R107 235).

That much power isn't available in a kit; your X6M will have to go to Autenzell for the hardware and Bi-Tronik 2 V3 software upgrade - which will add €5236 (R84 875) for the software and €2645.80 (R42 880) for installation to the bill.

To save you the calculations, the grand total for a Stage 3 conversion is €20 985.40 (R340 130) ex works - and you still have to supply the base X6M. But the finished article - all 2.3 tons of it - will howl through the standing quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of more than 300km/h.

Power is nothing without control

G-Power also recommends a set of GX6M-RS electronically adaptive coilover suspension units at €2727.50 (R44 180) plus €650.51 (R10 540) for installation, as well as 23 inch Hurricane RR aircraft-spec forged-alloy rims, shod with 325/25 low-profile radials at €2511.50 (R40 700) each - not including the tyres!
