Gazoo Racing's tuning division GRMN has given the Toyota 86 a serious makeover for the Tokyo Auto Salon.

While Toyota remains secretive about any plans to address what's probably the rear-wheel drive coupé's biggest point of contention - its ability to go anywhere in a hurry - GRMN has shown what can be done in a more extreme scenario.

The 86's 2-litre boxer engine has been modified with both a turbocharger and a supercharger, among other additions; knocking its outputs up to 242kW and 430Nm.

What's more, the GRMN Sports FR Concept Platinum is never going to be mistaken for an ordinary 86, thanks to a completely new front end, bespoke 18-inch alloys, side aero kit and massive rear spoiler.

YARIS GOES TURBO

GRMN has also worked its magic on the Toyota Yaris hatchback. What started life as a humble Yaris three-door is now a sporty hatch powered by a 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine that's good for 110kW and 205Nm.

To harness the extra oomph, this Yaris has been treated to a modified suspension system, uprated brakes and a body shell that's been strengthened for track driving.

In addition, the tuning arm has given it a tasteful external makeover, complete with a bolder front bumper-grille combination, darkened headlight units and black alloys.
