Autenzell, Bavaria - This is actually G-Power's second upgrade package for the BMW X5 M (F85), on the grounds that its first effort, released in October 2015, simply wasn't insane enough.
That raised the output of the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 in BMW's powerwagon from the standard 422kW and 750Nm to 514kW and 905Nm - but now the performance junkies at G-Power have upped the ante again - to a tar-wrinkling 551kW at 6500 revs and 980Nm from 3000-4500rpm.
That, says G-Power, will launch this brick-shaped 2350kg monster through the standing quarter-mile in 11.5 seconds (that's close to superbike territory) and on to a top speed of more than 300km/h.
How'd they do that?
Firstly, the turbo housings are machined out and gas-flowed to take bigger turbine and compressor wheels, matched to stainless-steel downpipes with free-flow catalysts and a specially made titanium exhaust system with four 100mm tailpipes that not only flow a lot more freely and speak with increased authority, but are also 23kg lighter than the stock pipes.
Then the ECU is re-flashed with G-Power's Bi-Tronik 2 V3 software upgrade, calibrated for the new hardware, and an extra plug-in module bypasses BMW's 250km/h electronic speed limiter.
Finally the G-Power white-coats lower the suspension with the company's own GX5M-RS coilover dampers and bolt on a set of 23 inch Hurricane forged-alloy rims shod with ultra-low profile 325/25 rubber.
All of which will set you back €28 400 (R475 000) - and remember, you still have to provide a current-model X5M.
