Is this 2013's loudest paint job?

There's no accounting for tastes, they say. Well, Cyril, here's a case in point.

This one-of-a-kind Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series is not a show car.

That pearlescent yellow paint job, with matching alloy rims and colour co-ordinated interior, set off by special graphics on the body sides and all-black badging, was actually ordered by an AMG customer who, for health reasons (his own) has chosen to remain anonymous.

MECHANICALLY STANDARD

According to the AMG Performance Studio, which built this astonishing vehicle, it's mechanically standard (well, as much as anything coming out of the Affalterbach skunk works can ever be considered standard), with a 6.2-litre V8 delivering 464kW and 634Nm, good for 0-100 in 3.5 seconds and 315km/h flat out.

Yet the black-and-bright visual contrast is not as violent as it appears at first glance; the graphics are quite understated and the edgy yellow with flip-flop green pearl grows on you after a while.

No, we're not going to order one as IOL Motoring's office wheels, but we wouldn't turn it down if it was a gift.
