Facelifted Kia will spawn South African 1.6-litre turbo version as a high-value hot hatch contender
The Kia Pro_cee'd is one of the few Kia cars still not sporting the brand's latest corporate front grille treatment and this facelift rectifies this, while also bringing it closely into line with the latest facelifted Cee'd five-door hatch. The facelifted Pro_Cee'd is also likely to spawn a locally developed hot hatch version.
No official details about the facelift have been made available at present, as the image you see here was leaked. The facelifted Pro_cee'd will be making its first public appearance at the Geneva Motor Show next year so all will be revealed by March.
However, Kia has previously divulged that the facelifted Pro_cee'd will be getting direct injection 1.6-litre and 2-litre petrol engines, which are up to 20% more powerful than the current equivalents, while another source indicates that the 1.6-litre turbodiesel mill gets a significant power hike to 95kW and 255Nm (from 66kW and 235Nm).
The current Pro_cee'd never made much of an impact on the South African market as the car was hugely overpriced from the moment it hit our shores, and its sticker tag continued to increase - now R249 995 for the 2.0 CVVT.
However some dealerships have been selling a locally-developed 166kW 2-litre turbocharged version in limited numbers and all in preparation for the possible creation of a 1.6-litre turbo version of the facelifted generation. Keep fingers crossed that this hot Kia gets the green light.

Kia could just ask their owners, Hyundai, to give them the new (Mitsubishi) Sonata 2.0 turbo engine...

Its still overpriced. The little wrx (not sti) is much better value, with PROVEN reliability and beautiful symmetrical AWD. Slapping a turbo on the kia is what I would call putting lipstick on a pig. Adding a turbo doesnt add value unless all the R&D has been done.
