Woking, England - The week before last, McLaren revealed its stunning new 650S to the world, but they didn't bother to tell us how fast it is.

Now the numbers are out the bag for Woking's latest supercar, which is slightly more powerful than the 12C upon which it's based.

According to McLaren, the 650S will screech to 100km/h in just 3.0 seconds and on to 200km/h in 8.4s and 300km/h in 25.4s before eventually running out of steam at 333km/h. A standing quarter mile, meanwhile, is taken care of in only 10.5 seconds.

As previously reported, the 650S is powered by a version of the 12C's M838T 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, modified to produce 478kW at 7250rpm and 678Nm at 6000rpm (18kW and 78Nm more than you get in the 12C).

Power is shoved through to the rear wheels via a seven-speed SSG gearbox and balanced handling in ensured by an enhanced ProActive Chassis Control suspension system, which offers three settings - including one for track driving.

Furthermore, various aerodynamic improvements - including a new front end with a large splitter and door blades behind the front wheels - work together to improve downforce.

Where this supercar really stands out, according to McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt, is in the overall driving excitement that it offers:

“Of course the performance figures are important, and they help boost excitement. But they're only part of the story. This is a car that's about feel as well as measurement.”

The McLaren 650S will make its official public debut at the Geneva Motor Show early next week.
