Ready to delight the most hardcore of track day enthusiasts, McLaren has announced that it'll be building a limited run of the most powerful 12C ever.
First shown as a design study at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance a few months back, the track-focused 12C GT Can-Am Edition will not be subjected to the usual racing regulations, meaning they'll be turning up the wick on the 12C's 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine as well as optimising its cooling system.
As a result, the race machine will thump out 470kW, up from the 12C road car's 441kW output.
The Can-Am Edition is also aerodynamically superior, with a bespoke package (including that huge carbon fibre rear wing) that increases downforce by 30 percent. In addition to other carbon fibre bits and pieces, the exterior package includes a set of black satin alloy wheels shod with Pirelli racing rubber.
For maximum track-day protection, the Can-Am Edition is kitted out with a full FIA-approved roll cage, racing steering wheel and two black race seats with six-point harnesses.
It's not completely stripped out however, with McLaren having fitted a motorsport air conditioning system.
Paying tribute to McLaren's Can-Am series race champions Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme, the track edition will be limited to a production run of just 30 units, with UK pricing pegged at £375 000 (R5.28-million).
