McLaren previews radical P1 supercar
McLaren has released the first pictures of its radical new concept car that strongly hints at the firm's new P1 supercar, which will be unveiled next year.
McLaren describes the P1 as an “ultimate supercar” that has one simple goal - to be the best driver's car in the world on road and track.
To that end, McLaren says it takes much of its technological and spiritual inspiration from the company's racing division.
McLaren's chairman Ron Dennis continues with the bold claims:
“Twenty years ago we raised the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redefine it once again.”
But that doesn't necessarily entail creating the world's fastest car in terms of top speed, MD Anthony Sherrif points out, but rather to be the “quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit.”
Sherrif concludes: “Our goal is to make the McLaren P1 the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made.”
No technical information on the P1 has been divulged yet - expect that at the Paris Motor Show next week - but the company does point out the obvious fact that it will be positioned above the 12C in performance terms.
Various international media sources have reported that the P1 will be powered by a modified version of the 12C's 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8, pelting out as much as 670kW.
All we can say is watch this very exciting space…
