New Dacia MPV - Lodgy or Dodgy?

Stodgy perhaps? Sorry, but when you call your car the Lodgy, you are going to incite a few chuckles and Dodgy comments.

Nevertheless, the Lodgy is the latest product to come out of the Renault-owned Romanian brand that also gave us the Renault Sandero and Logan as well as the Nissan NP200.

Its name, according to Dacia, was derived from the English word 'lodge', apparently referring directly to its ability to comfortably accommodate a family and its luggage.

With seating for up to seven occupants, the Dacia Lodgy is basically aimed at contraception boycotters on a lowish budget.

Dacia says it offers decent accommodation, even for those in the third-row seat, as well as a large boot - all within the vehicle's length of 4.5 metres, making it slightly longer than a Toyota Verso.

The MPV will be displayed for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, but we can't tell you whether Renault SA is considering bringing it in as a Renault.

Dacia still has to make a decision on right-hand drive production for the UK - if this got the green light then it's certainly plausible.

The Lodgy also has a more exciting side, as Dacia has entered a competition version in France's Trophée Andros ice-racing championship.
