Johannesburg - Barely three months after the South African release of the Kadjar crossover, Renault SA has expanded its Dynamique 4x2 range, adding a 1.5-litre dCi turbodiesel and dual-clutch auto transmissions (two of them!) to the SA-market line-up.

The new engine (new to Kadjar, anyway) is the maker's proven 81kW common-rail four, with revised intake plumbing for a wider torque spread, peaking on 260Nm at 1750rpm for manual models and 250Nm at the same revs for self-shifters.

It's Renault's biggest-selling engine, having already been seen in Europe on the Megane, Scenic and Grand Scenic, as well as the Laguna sedan, station wagon and coupé, and in South Africa on Duster (since 2013) and (more recently) the Captur.

It's now available in the front-wheel drive Kadjar Dynamique with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch transmission featuring concentric multi-disc dual clutch twin-plate dry clutches and electronically actuated synchro rings. Nominal fuel-consumption is quoted as 4.6 litres per 100km.

But wait, there's more:

The current 96kW 1.2-litre turbopetrol Kadjar, until now only offered with a six-speed manual 'box, is now available with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, using concentric multi-plate wet clutches for seamless gear-changes.

All Kadjars come with a five-year or 150 000km warranty and a five-year or 90 000km service plan. Service intervals are 15 000km.
