Boblingen, Germany - Daimler has revved up speculation that the next-generation Smart ForTwo and ForFour are to be formally introduced on 16 July with the release of this teaser video, showing the process of development through the various concepts to the production-ready car.

TWINGO TWIN

Since it's already been announced that they will share most of their running gear with the new Renault Twingo, you're looking at a choice of either a 51kW, one-litre triple or a 66kW 900cc turbotriple, driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual or an (extra-cost, optional) six-speed auto transmission.

The maker has said standard kit will include daytime running lights, rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, a multifunction steering wheel and a rev-counter up on top of the dashboard near the A-pillar.
