This Geely has big kit, little price

Recalling a previous driving experience, we remember the Geely MK2 as feeling like a rather cheap, rudimentary and plasticy car, but one that does offer a lot of size and kit for the money.

Now Geely has upped the ante, at least as far as equipment goes, with its 1.5-litre MK2 Limited. It's got toys that you wouldn't normally dream of at the price, which is pegged at R109 990.

In addition to air conditioning, electric windows, central locking and a CD/USB audio system, the Limited has a reverse radar and a customised leather interior with vinyl decals.

However they have skimped on your front occupant's safety by not offering a passenger-side airbag, but there is a driver's 'bag and ABS brakes.

On another note, we're not sure why Geely refers to this as a "warm hatch" (and we are quoting them directly) but perhaps that could be true if you leave it in the sun for long enough.

It certainly has nothing to do with the performance. The Limited is powered by Geely's familiar 1.5-litre 16V petrol engine that's credited with 69kW and 128Nm. Geely claims a top speed of 165km/h and average fuel consumption of 7.3 litres per 100km.

If there is any warmness here, though, it is compliments of the sport exhaust system, lowered suspension and alloy wheels. All included in the aforementioned price, of course.

Hurry though, as Geely promises that this South-African-specific edition is only available in limited numbers through its network of 35 dealers.

Back-up is provided by a three-year/100 000km warranty, AA Roadside Assistance for the aforementioned period and you can also order it with a service plan.
