Renault has released the first picture of its new Koleos SUV ahead of its reveal at the Beijing Motor Show next Monday, April 25.

We'll have to wait until then for any real detail on the new D-segment model, but what is clear is that the new Koleos has taken a good step upmarket.

The new model is reportedly based on the latest Nissan X-Trail, which means it's also closely related to its smaller Kadjar sibling that has just been released in South Africa, and which is based on the Nissan Qashqai.

The new Koleos has a more robust design than the Kadjar, at least from the front end, where it resembles the Talisman saloon with its C-shaped headlights and large grille.

Under the bonnet, the 96kW/320Nm 1.6 turbodiesel found in its aforementioned siblings is a dead cert and we'll also put money on the Qashqai's 120kW/240Nm 1.6-litre turbopetrol engine forming part of the range.

Renault promises that its new D-segment SUV will offer a “comfortable interior with record room for passengers” and that it'll offer “all-terrain ability.” For the latter you can thank the X-Trail's all-wheel drive system, which will be fitted to upper versions.
