London - Not that there are many diesel sports cars in the world, but this new Trident can at least claim to be the fastest and most efficient.

The British sports car brand has just announced the global availability of its new Iceni. Powered by a 6.6-litre V8 turbodiesel, the sports car can allegedly dash from 0-60mph (96km/h) in just 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of over 306km/h. The engine's mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox and while the standard engine is good for 295kW and 948Nm, Trident also offers a tuning package that raises the output game to 321kW and 1287Nm.

Being a diesel, there is an economy advantage too, for those that can keep their racing instincts in check. Although no actual consumption figures have been divulged, Trident reckons that the car can cover 3200km on a single tank of mineral or bio-diesel.

Trident's founder and designer Phil Bevan enthused: “The Trident cars deliver incredible speed and performance combined with outstanding fuel efficiency, achieved through our unique torque multiplication technology.”

Trident claims that its Iceni range is already in high demand around the world. Prices start from £96 000 (R1 713 600) and every model can be built “to specific customer spec,” the company claims.
