Round 5 of the SupaDrift Series, held at the Dezzi circuit in Port Shepstone on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast at the weekend, produced some of the best drifting yet seen in South Africa as 29 drivers (four entries dropped out early on) vied for bragging rights with higher speeds, better lines and formidable slide angles.
Series leaders Wade van Zummeren and Jason Webb collided in qualifying, damaging the driver’s door of Webb's Nissan 200SX and demolishing the nose of Van Zummeren's Nissan Skyline.
ONE MORE TIME
Jonathan Rudman (Nissan 200SX) and David Nell in his newly sponsored S14 Nissan also impressed in practice, with Nell qualifying second behind Van Zummeren.
Van Zummeren convincingly beat circuit owner Des Gutzeit (Nissan Silvia S15) to progress to the Top 8, while Nell and rookie Shane Gutzeit had to go One More Time to decide a winner, with Nell in front when it mattered.
The Skyline then came up against Jim McFarlane's Chev Lumina in an explosive final but the Ozcar simply didn't have the pace and lost narrowly to Webb's battered Nissan.
