Knysna - The seventh edition of the Simola Hillclimb – this year again sponsored by Jaguar – is scheduled to take place from 6-8 May in Knysna, and within days of opening the entry process on 1December 1 organisers had already received more than enough applications to fill all the available competitor slots.

But this does not mean that entries are closed and interested racers still have until 5 February to submit applications. Some competitors, such as past winners and drivers who have contested all six past events, have gained automatic entry to this year’s hillclimb, but the rest of the field is filled as part of a selection process.

Instead of entry forms as in other forms of motorsport, Jaguar Simola Hillclimb competitors submit “expressions of interest”. Organisers will then review all submissions and will issue invitations to compete by mid-February. This is the only way to balance the field with a wide array of vehicle types and classes.

As in past Simola Hillclimb events, Friday will be set aside for classic cars only where a maximum of 60 drivers can compete, while Saturday and Sunday will again host the popular King of the Hill competition for more modern cars. Here a total of 84 slots are open. Interested competitors can apply to race on the Simola Hillclimb website.
