Johannesburg - Custom, modified and performance car show MotorEx will be staged for the first time this year at the Ticketpro Dome from 16-18 September, celebrating everything about the tuning scene - and convenor Annie Silva of Speed and Sound magazine promises it will not be a quiet weekend.

With more than 70 exhibitors covering 11 000 square metres and featuring more than 400 vehicles over a three-day weekend, the Expo will open at 2pm on Friday with the unveiling of Meguiar's Best of Show - a breathtaking selection of custom performance cars - and go on late into the night as car enthusiasts' group "My Car Got Shot" host their third event of the year in the Dome's main parking area.

Friday will also see the start of a three-day Live Build-Off Challenge where three of the top car audio brands will try to outdo each other by building the loudest car audio installation on one of three identical Datsuns.

Saturday's highlights will include the SPL Sound-Off, while Sunday will feature the Grounded Stance-off car show, and a dyno challenge where the opening bid is 750kW - Annie said it wouldn't be a quiet weekend!

Guest tuners will showcase their machines in the Power Arena, hosted by expo MC Nolan Ballakistein and TV personality Jason Goliath; the Master Tuner's Theatre will host talks by specialists in tuning, styling and car audio, while the radio-control drifting championship has already attracted 40 of the country's most talented RC Drift competitors from across the country.

And, as a surprise addition to the show, tuning specialist Race! has secured a guest appearance by Wataru Kato, creator of the extraordinary Liberty Walk wide-body kits that are causing a stir in the modified scene across the world.

Tickets are R200 per person from Ticketpro , or R250 at the door; family and weekend packages are also available. For more info visit the Speed and Sound Expo website .
