There will be nothing lovey-dovey to speak of at the Rock Raceway in Brakpan this Valentines weekend as the first meet of South Africa's drifting championship gets underway.

Saturday will see the Auto Trader SupaDrift series hosting its usual sideways spectacular with a record field of over 40 drifters.

And they're coming from further afield. According to series promoters, there has been a significant increase in the number of drifters coming from Cape Town, as well as international hopefuls from Mozambique.

"If a field this size, and this skilled, makes your brain move sideways, just keep an eye out for Riaz Alibhai and Nick Frey. These two rookies are ones to watch," a SupaDrift spokesperson exclaimed.

What's more, SA's "First Lady in Racing" Clare Vale will be competing with her RAM Mustang and will also be hunting for a good result.

"All the drifters are raring to go after the long break, and the RAM team is no exception. The RAM Mustang now goes sideways with the best of them and I'm looking forward to this weekend's challenge,” Clare noted.

"The atmosphere at The Rock is always electric and we have a great support base there, so I'm sure it's going to be a fantastic start to the new season!"

Tickets are available at the gate and cost R80 for adults and R50 for children.

If you can't make it to see the smoke-filled action live, the event will also be streamed live (for the first time ever) via www.supadrift.co.za
